Moonsoon, Raining Cats and Dogs, Houston CowParade 2001
Today is supposed to be a rainy day so I thought about this cow.
This happy cow does not mind the rain. It’s all dolled up in it’s best rain gear. Rain or shine this is a great cow!

Wildflower, Houston CowParade 2001
Today is the last day of the Philadelphia Flower Show.  This cow says that you should go!
Wildflower is a beautiful reclining cow grazing on Texas wildflowers. Her bright white coat is covered in sixteen different varieties of colorful Texas wildflowers. The varieties include bluebonnets, coreopsis, Indian paintbrush, Indian blanket, showy primrose, prairie rose, baby Texas blue eyes, Texas stars, winecups, meadow pink, field poppy, Mexican poppy, Mexican hat, common sunflower, purple coneflower, and morning glory. Wildflower has a few butterflies scattered among her wildflowers and a brass hoop earring in her left ear.

Artist Laurei Svec was inspired to create Wildflower by an artistically minded friend in El Paso who encourages her to try new things. Her friend, who can no longer practice her art due to multiple sclerosis, has many creative thoughts and ideas that she passes on to Laurie. Laurie was raised in Corvallis, Oregon and attended Oregon State University, Central Texas College, and later, Houston Community College to acquire an Associate Degree focusing on commercial art. She is a member of the Watercolor Art Socity, The Houston Egg Art Guild and Wome in Visual and Literary Arts. Laurie is a watercolor artist and writes children’s stories.

Cow of Lilies, Houston CowParade 2001
Working from silk calla lilies, talented students at Hastings Ninth Grade Center created Cow of Lillies, a design of richly painted hued flowers on a deep azure background. The artists were inspired by Diego Rivera and his painted calla lilies. Principle and staff members also enjoyed applying their talents to the greenery. (Each eye of the cow is painted completely different.)

A group of dedicated teachers and students worked countless hours after school to achieve their goal of a beautifully decorated cow.

Oops a Daisy!, Gromit Unleashed 2013

Oops a Daisy was perhaps the most tactile Gromit on our art trail – which is no surprise as he was designed by award-winning garden designer, author and presenter Diarmuid Gavin, well known for presenting Gardener’s World and the Chelsea Flower Show.

Daisy, Hopewell Stampede 2014
Today is the third day of the Philadelphia Flower Show so I am posting yet another animal named Daisy.  I only got to see this ox in the dark so these photos are from the website.

Artist's Design Statement

As I researched words and phrases that incorporated the word ox, I settled on depicting a serene field of daisies, Leucanthemum Vulgare, or the Oxeye Daisy specifically.
The scene presented before you, calm and gentle, compliments the nature of the ox, which are considered gentle giants, passive, obedient, steady and bright. Influenced by nature and the natural form, and being interested in environmental art and painting landscapes, I’ve chosen to use the blank white ox form as a canvas to paint something that is relevant and associated with the ox. I use each facet of the ox as a separate canvas to depict a different scene and aspect of the Oxeye Daisy in nature.
