Photo of the day
Cookies 'n' Cream, Houston CowParade 2001
Today is Bake Cookies Day so I thought about this cow:
Artist: Dura Dittmar
Sponsor: Duke Energy

Artist Dura Dittmar’s craving for a midnight snack influenced the design of Cookies ‘n’ Cream. Although the artist enjoys the traditional flavor of Oreo cookies crumbled into vanilla ice cream, she prefers her version, which is to dip crunchy chocolate chip cookies into softened ice cream and eat it chip-and-dip style. This whimsical creature is not a low-cal cow. Cookies ‘n’ Cream has several large bumpy, crunchy, chocolate chip cookies painted against a background of white, which represents smooth, creamy vanilla ice cream. The chocolate horns and ears appear to bust out of the cookie head. The cow’s eyes and hooves are painted to look like chocolate chips. Additional chocolate morsels are scattered about because for those wh can never have too much chocolate!

As a result, art has been an important part of Dura’s life from a very young age. She earned an A.A.S. degree in Advertising Art from San Antonio College a B.S. in Elementary Education from East Tennessee State University. For the past nine years she has combined her talents by theaching art at Alvin ISD. Dura works with a variety of mediums on a multitude of surfaces. She enjoys pastels, watercolor, acrylics, pen & ink, graphite, colored pencils and porcelain. Her specialties include porcelain Christmas ornaments, custom tiles, and murals. Her work has won numerous awards both locally and nationally through her association with the National Society of Artists.
