Veggie Cow, Houston CowParade 2001
With Thanksgiving coming up I thought about this cow that I saw in Houston:

Artist: Robert E. Lee High School
Sponsor: EOG Resources, Inc.

Who says you can’'t be a vegetarian to enjoy a cow? Veggie-cow, a bright, vivid design containing all varieties of vegetables, even includes a few pieces of fruit for added color. This one-of-a-kind bovine features red pepper horns, a corn on the cob mouth, olive eyes, pea pod ears, and a hilarious tomato udder. Ten talented art students from teacher Jane Middleton'’s art classes worked on the cow, which was created by Priyanka Wani. Priyanka was born in India and her design was inspired by her religion and culture.

Jane Ann Middleton has been an art teacher at Lee High School since 1993. She has a BBA from Texas Tech University and a M. Ed. in art from the University of Houston. She studied in San Miguel de Allende with the Maryland Art Institute and studied watercolor in Provence, France.

Mooisha the Moomaid, Houston CowParade 2001
Artist: Shelley Buschur
Sponsor: Municipal Pipe

If a cow were daydreaming out in the pasture, what would her fantasy be? Perhaps she would dream of the glamorous life of a mermaid. Artist Shelley Buschur has created a true beauty from the dazzling starfish earrings and crown to the beautifully sculptured and colored tail. While Mooisha is a lovely creature from the sea, she possesses some human characteristics that make her even more appealing. In addition to making people laugh, the artist hopes that Mooisha will cause people to have more compassion toward the lives of animals.

Shelley was born in Flint, Michigan, but migrated to Houston “in search of adventure and inspiration.” Buschur claims she found both. She earned a BFA from the University of Houston. She likes to design costumes, wear and collect wigs, belly dance and organize community maypole dances.

Love brought me here to Atlanta. The name of my love is Brian, and whatever I do, that love is my inspiration. Add to that inspiration a huge sympathy for tasty, refreshing milk and you will get new clothes for a cow - a romantic, white wedding dress!

Ms. Pearsonality Cow, Houston Cowparade 2001
Fall is a good time to eat pears so I thought about this cow that I saw in a park in Houston.

Whoever says that cows are dull and boring never met Ms. Pearsonality. This piece by artist Sylvia Angeli definitely stood out amongst the herd in CowParade Houston. This pear inspired cow is painted in bold, luminous colors and was a crowd favorite. Angeli started the cow by building texture first and then used oils to paint the pears. The artist loves the shape of pears and the use of color and had great fun with this project.

The artist is a Houston native who has studied and taught art in the Houston area. She enjoys painting pears using oils and her work has been shown in many galleries.
