Gummy Bear, Cairo's Bears and Butterflies 2009
I recently heard about a recipe for making your own gummy bears so I thought about this bear. The recipe is below from Recipe Rehab, a show seen on CBS on Saturday morning. I hope to try out the recipe soon.

I recently heard about a recipe for making your own gummy bears so I thought about this bear. The recipe is below from Recipe Rehab, a show seen on CBS on Saturday morning. I hope to try out the recipe soon.
Chef Vikki’s Homemade Gummi Bears
Ingredients:
- ¾ cup fresh squeezed orange juice
- ¼ cup fresh squeezed lemon juice
- 1 cup chopped strawberries
- 1 cup blueberries
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 5 packets gelatin (or 5 tablespoons)
Preparation:
Add the fruit juice, berries and
honey to a saucepan. Over medium heat, bring to a simmer. Transfer to a
blender, blend until smooth. Let the mixture cool for 5-10 minutes, then add 5
packets of gelatin to the blender. Blend until smooth. Pour the fruit mixture
onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator
until the mixture is firm. Using a small cookie cutter, cut out the gummy
bears.

The Constitution cow was inspired by schoolhouse Rock and Philadelphia. The artist hand scripted the Constitution and signatures of the signers, and sculpted hair on the head to be more appealing to children. The head is a chocolate brown reminiscent of Hershey chocolate. |

The Twin Cowers, New York CowParade 2000
Today is September 11th, Patriot Day so I thought about these cows that my twin sister and I happily stood in front of in 2000. My sister walked through the World Trade Center every day on her way to work so I am very thankful that she survived September 11th that day in NYC.
Double Check: 9/11 Survivor - A sculpture done by Seward Johnson called Double Check was in the World Trade Center area and survived the attack.
This sculpture - Double Check: 9/11 Survivor (first two photos) was on display at the Grounds of Sculpture this summer along with Makeshift Memorial (3rd photo).
Here's some history about the sculptures from the New York Times:
The sculpture, which is called "Double Check" and depicts a businessman hunched over his briefcase as he reviewed a contract, was so lifelike that some firemen tried to rescue it.

The sculpture, which is called "Double Check" and depicts a businessman hunched over his briefcase as he reviewed a contract, was so lifelike that some firemen tried to rescue it.
But
there's more to the story. "Double Check," which was covered with a
blanket of dust after the attacks, was later decorated with candles,
flowers, teddy bears, rescue company emblems and crosses by passers-by.
Mr. Johnson took the sculpture back to his studio, made a recasting and
attached bronzes of these decorations to the new work. "He considers it a
makeshift memorial," said the spokeswoman, Paula Stoeke, director of
the Sculpture Foundation, which owns and manages the Seward Johnson
collection.
