Photo of the day
Dr. Moo D. Brown, Houston CowParade, 2001
Because I'm having a medical test today, I thought about this cow.
Artist: Blackshear Elementary
Sponsor: Reliant Energy

The art students of Blackshear Elementary School in Houston, Texas created “Dr. Moo D. Brown.” According to the students, “All children going to the hospital must come into direct contact with a doctor and the doctor becomes our friend because he helps us stay healthy.” Because so many young children are uncomfortable with the doctor, the artists wanted to portray a friendly doctor. “Dr. Moo D. Brown” is dressed in hospital dress, complete with all of the instruments needed when seeing a patient or making rounds. He even has a beeper to stay in touch with the hospital and his patients.

Today is National Lighthouse Day so I thought about this cow:

My two photos

Artist: Elaine Lentz
Sponsor: Marriott Long Wharf
Origin of National Lighthouse Day:
On this day in 1789, the U.S. Congress enacted legislation allowing the federal government control over the creation and maintenance of lighthouses.  This special day evolved out of this event, and in recent years, through efforts to preserve lighthouses as a important historical symbol in America.
