The Sunday Cowmics - Harrisburg CowParade, 2004
I enjoy reading the comics on Sunday although now sometimes I cheat and read the Sunday comics on Saturdays.  At any rate I like reading the newspaper on Sunday.

Life is so rushed. The Sunday Cowmics and a cup of coffee is a necessary stop in the busy pasture of life. The smile should explain it all…

Strawberry Cow - Harrisburg CowParade, 2004
I've been eating lots of strawberries lately so I thought of this cow.
There was also an article in the Philadelphia Inquirer on May 17, 2015 about the research being done on strawberries at Rutgers University and another article in the New Jersey Star Ledger.   This is very exciting because I used to work for Dr. J who did lots of research on strawberries.  The "Rutgers Scarlet" strawberry plant will be available on August 15, 2015.

Here is a link to information about the new Rutgers strawberry:

Miss Azalea - Houston CowParade, 2001

My garden club meeting is tonight and the azaleas are in bloom so I thought about this cow:
Title: Miss Azalea

Artist: Molieve
Sponsor: John and Carroll Goodman

This grazing cow is adorned with profusion of spring flowers such as tulips, iris, dogwood, and of course azaleas. The tail and horns are graced with a touch of grapevine and smaller flowers. The hooves and legs are completed with rocks and flowering shrubs. The Texas blue sky background is enhanced with airy trees, clouds, and large azaleas. The forehead of the cow has a Texas shaped cloud with twining vines.

The artist explains, “I love Texas history and we are so lucky to have a part of our history preserved so well in the grounds at Bayou Bend, former home of Houston philanthropist, Ima Hogg. Houston and azaleas are a great combination. I hope others will be reminded of the beauty of Houston in the spring when the azaleas are in bloom.”

Chocolate Moo-se - Houston Cowparade, 2001
I had a milkshake last night so I thought of this cow.
Title: Chocolate Moo-se

Artist: Michelle O'Michael
Salli Babbitt
Sponsor: The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa

Chocolate Moo-se is a cow-parfait of strawberry, chocolate, whipped cream, a candy-stripped straw, and a one-foot cherry on top. According to O’Michael, “who was born and raised on the verdant pastures of West Texas, this is not what I had in mind when as a child I said, “I want to be a cowgirl”. This cow was inspired by the artist’'s father’'s 23 square mile range and the 20 cows able to survive on it. Taking my culinary skills to a new level, the cow was carved and skewered with a steel armature.   It supports the 14 foot cow and steel cup.”

Michelle O’Michael’'s artistic aesthetic springs from the flat West Texas land with steel trees of rigs and pump jacks. O’Michael began art studies under the direction of her father and West Texas teachers. She continued at multiple universities and museum schools, and has a degree from the University of Texas Austin. O’Michael’'s grandfather was a coalfield blacksmith.   Her sculpture is a continuation of his steel work.

Houston artist Kermit Eisenhut, named “Best Artist of the Year” by the Housotn Press in 2000, created fourteen entries for CowParade Houston. Eisenhut is known for his playful style that often includes animal caricatures and palate knife renderings of abstract, realistic and surrealistic subjects. He paints on canvas but also designs greeting cards, large-scale murals, furniture, plates and mannequins. This lovely Bluebonnet Cow is a magnificent tribute to the Texas state flower.

Mother Moose is a whimsical representation of Mother Goose. The cow has six colorful spots where a Mother Goose poem is written. All the characters in the design are depicted as cows. The cow has a polka dot apron matching the tail. The horns and udders are in polka dots of contrasting colors. The cow wears a big straw hat with flowers and ribbons.

She is meant to honor all the children in the world and their joy in learning and reciting finger plays and rhymes.

Petal - From Shaun in the City
My sister is heading over to London tomorrow to see the sheep.  One of her friends there just saw this sheep.

The first flock of 50 sculptures arrived in London on 28th March and are making the capital their home until 25th May. A further flock of 70 b-ewe-tiful sculptures will then graze Bristol’s pastures from 6th July to 31st August. With different sculptures appearing in each city, be sure to catch them both!
